Q: How to Crate Train my dog

A: I often come across people who want to know how to crate train their dogs. Couple of  things to keep in mind while crate training are;  firstly, while your dog is inside the crate and he and she is howling or whining, never let out the dog in such a situation. If you let the dog out while he is howling or whining, the signal you are sending the dog is that on crying he or she will be let out of the crate. Secondly, the moment the dog settles down let him out on a marker command. If you open the door of the crate and the dog rushes out of the crate , say a stern NO and shut the door immediately. The dog should be let out only when he is given a command by you to do so.

Q: How to rebond with my dog?

A: Often times people come with the query that their dog is too attached or bonded with one person in the family and that is creating problems. The dog has separation anxiety when this one person is not around. He or she becomes over protective of this one particular person in the family and so on. The solution to this problem is to be able to understand the basic functioning of the dog;s mind. Dogs are essentially pack animals and hence will tend to bond with their family very closely. The key point to look here is that is this one particular person in the family taking care of all the needs of the dog? If so; then that needs to change immediately. The dog should be rebonded with other members of the family. He or she should not be given food by one person. Different people in the family should take care to the needs of the dog like taking him or her out for walks to do the daily chores. To play with him or spend time in general.

Q. My dog is losing hair and the general quality of his skin and coat is very poor.

A. I have tried this supplement myself both on my dog .  Biotin, which is the name of the supplement available without prescription and available in any Pharmacy is a wonder drug. It definitely gives a shiny and lustrous coat in dogs and helps keep the skin oils in balance and healthy. Although this is a human supplement it works equally well with dogs of all breeds and ages. However, this supplement will not cure any skin disease like mange and fungal infections. You have to use prescribed medicines to treat such ailments.

Q. My dog has soft stools bordering on loos stomach all the time perpetually. He never passes firm stools

A.  Phylum Husk is an excellent low cost supplement for dogs with sensitive stomach. Also especially after your dog travels or goes to a new environment to live in. Phylum Husk should be added to his/her food and given on a regular basis. Some doctors recommend yogurt or curd with phylum husk to be mixed in. However some dogs are sensitive to even yogurt so little bit of Phylum Husk can be sprinkled on the daily food.
